My Night:
New nurse John. Comes in at 9:00 to introduce himself and take vitals. Moves all my stuff around away from my bed, doesn't put it back when finished. Makes me get up and sit on edge of bed instead of 3 straight weeks of doing vitals multiple times a day as comfortable. Irritated. Then starts asking ME how often I need my vitals taken (used a term I hadn't heard before). Why ask me?
Back in at 12:20 for more vitals. Turns on lights, monitor, same process to get me up out of bed to sit on edge again, won't stop talking.
1:45 fire in the building, alarms going off.
4:05 John back in for blood draws, even though I informed him twice we've been doing them at 6:00 because I just get up then, ask for water and coffee, pull out my laptop and start my day. Didn't care - did them at 4:05. Lights on, talk the whole time, talking about he is the 4th most important person in his family, so if his wife or kids needed to resort to cannabolism, he'd let them eat him first.
I'm like really - this is the conversation you're having with me? I ask how the night has been going for them and if it's been quiet outside of the fire alarm, and he snaps back at how rude a question that is to ask nurses who are so busy. Whoa...fine. Get out.
Oh and because I was tired and it was 4:05, I did NOT realize he never put on gloves to do the blood draws! Then did not put my bed back down so when I got up to pee at 5:00, I damn near did a header out of bed.
6:00 I get up, get setup and cleaned up and walk out to inquire if anyone had started coffee yet as I had mentioned a couple times. One nurse said she'd get it going and asked which room as he came out and asked what I needed and I asked for the coffee whenever there was time anyone had. He snapped back that "coffee is typically done on day shift not night shift. I said to forget it and turned and walked back into my room. I'm done with this ahole.
GET ME OUT OF HERE BEFORE I LOSE MY SH!T TODAY! Any wonder why I'm so on edge, frustrated, exhausted, etc....Type your paragraph here.
